For the last several years, I have been carrying a secret. I was teaching social work for a university by day and breaking my family’s heart by night by spending most nights coming home and numbing out on Sauvignon Blanc. I had been questioning my relationship with alcohol for months.

Today, I have been alcohol-free for over two years. I have written daily about my sober journey – the good, the bad and the ugly. I want to share my story with you through my book, This Side of Alcohol. My goal is to provide not only space for my story and how I got here, but yours as well.

Peggi Cooney is a social work instructor/coach with a master's in Social Work from California State University. Since getting sober, Peggi has become a sobriety advocate.
